The Incomparable Ella Fitzgerald Graces CMG's Client Roster

Ella Fitzgerald CMG proudly welcomes "The First Lady of Song," legendary performer Ella Fitzgerald. With over 2,000 songs recorded, and 13 Grammy Awards to her credit, Fitzgerald is without a doubt one of the most preeminent jazz artists in history.

Fitzgerald was born April 25, 1917 in Newport News, Virginia. As a young girl she dreamt of becoming an entertainer. She was discovered after taking first place in an amateur performers competition at Harlem's Apollo Theater. Fitzgerald began recording and supplemented her income by working at the Harlem Opera House. Her first hit came in 1938 with A-Tisket, A-Tasket, an up-tempo version of the familiar nursery rhyme. She went on to release popular albums Lullabies of Birdland and Sweet and Hot under the Decca label, which cemented her celebrity status. A tireless performer, Fitzgerald's career remained in full gear for six decades. On June 15, 1996, she died in her Beverly Hills home at the age of 79.

Advertisers such as American Express and Memorex experienced unprecedented success by featuring Ella in their advertising campaigns. Record sales of Ella's music throughout Europe and Asia still soar as her legend is re-introduced to new fans in another generation.
