Jack Kerouac And "On The Road" Go Online

Jack Kerouac In 1951, Jack Kerouac wrote his most famous novel, On the Road, based on his adventures with friend Neal Cassady. On the Road was a stylistic breakthrough for Kerouac, who had developed a theory of writing he called "spontaneous prose." When On the Road was published in 1957, Kerouac was instantly hailed as a major American writer, and thrust into the spotlight as the reluctant spokesman for the beat generation.

Private, non-profit organization the National Building Museum is utilizing Kerouac's famous novel for an educational Web site. They are currently in the process of creating an online exhibition that will explore all aspects of America's built environment, including its roads. Thus, curators at the Museum have chosen to include an image of Kerouac and a two minutes audio clip of the author reading from On The Road. The exhibition will be available to students worldwide via the Internet through December 2007. For more information, please visit
