Forty Years After Her Death, Marilyn's Star Continues to Rise
Marilyn
Monroe. The very mention
of her name leaves many breathless. It conjures a plethora of
images, all different, and yet somehow all fitting. A vivacious
blonde, a talented actress, a sensual spirit, a delicate beauty.
After she died on August 5, 1962, the demand for Marilyn has
continued to grow. This year presents an especially meaningful
event, as 2002 marks the 40-year anniversary of Marilyn's death.
In light of this milestone, CMG recognizes a number of current
campaigns and products, inspired by Marilyn, that have united
advertisers, merchandisers and fans worldwide.
Sophia Swire London
recently introduced a line of women's tops that feature variations
of Andy Warhol's famous Marilyn. The creative mix includes long-sleeved,
short-sleeved and sleeveless tops, made in either cashmere or
silk, with crystal or brushed metal accents. For the junior's
market, apparel manufacturer Trevco
Sportswear, Inc. has introduced
colorful Marilyn t-shirts and tank tops.
Marilyn is a hot accessory item as well. Designer handbag manufacturers
Isabella Fiore
and Cielo Creation
have released elite variations featuring her stunning image
as the focal point. Coskun
Fine Art has accommodated another
market with their line of Marilyn-themed stationary items, including
gift wrap, gift bags, party invitations, thank you cards, photo
albums and greeting cards.
Marilyn Monroe calendar sales speak for themselves, and publishing
companies Avalanche Publishing,
Graphique de France,
Cedco
and Browntrout
can attest to the fact that fans want to see her all year-round.
