Babe Ruth pitches Pepsi
Baseball’s greatest star, Babe Ruth, will be mentioned in one of Pepsi’s latest commercials. Dubbed the Sultan of Swat, Babe led the American League in home runs 12 times. More impressively, the Babe hit 60 home runs in 1927, which averaged out to 14% of all home runs in his league that year. For a player to hit 14% of all home runs today, he would have to hit over 300 home runs in one season.
Soft drink giant, Pepsi, will be paying homage
to his power hitting in an advertisement which uses Babe Ruth’s signature on a baseball, as well as a verbal reference to his name. The premise of the 30-second commercial is a bet between Sammy Sosa and Jason Giambi, two of baseballs modern-day stars, on who can hit farther. The two end up on top of Mount Everest searching for their baseballs. Upon figuring out the winner, their guide finds a ball that has gone even further, and it is signed “Babe Ruth.” So, fittingly, the Sultan of Swat keeps his place in history.
