Marilyn Monroe promotes corporate name change
Marilyn Monroe, the ultimate icon of beauty and glamour, continues to intrigue fans around the world decades after her death. The sense of innocence and naturalism Monroe conveyed, both on and off the screen, has endeared her to millions worldwide.
When an established international health and beauty corporation needed a creative way to announce its name change, the company had to look no further than Marilyn. Veet,
formerly Immac, utilized her international appeal
to garner the attention of their audience. She changed her own name from Norma
Jean Baker to Marilyn Monroe
in 1946.
This full-scale campaign was directed at consumers in the United
Kingdom and Ireland. It included television, print and point
of sale promotions. The television commercial, which aired
for one month, featured a clip of Marilyn in her 1955 film
The Seven Year Itch. Print advertisements appeared in distributions
of magazines such as Glamour, Cosmopolitan and Elle. The company
also promoted the switch through the “Veet Name Change Challenge,” a contest that offered the chance to win up to £10,000 worth of personal pampering.
