Malcolm X in unprecedented collection
of writings
The legacy of Malcolm
X has moved through generations as the subject of numerous documentaries, books and movies. A tremendous resurgence of interest occurred in 1992 when director Spike Lee released the acclaimed Malcolm
X movie. The film received Oscar nominations for Best
Actor (Denzel Washington) and Best Costume Design.
This spring, several of Malcolm X’s writings and speeches were released in a new CD-ROM collection published by the Alexander
Street Press. This unprecedented collection, entitled
Black Thought and Culture, contains approximately
100,000 documents by major African-American leaders. The selected pieces span
American history and address
a wide range of landmark struggles and events. Items in the collection range
from letters, speeches and essays, to political leaflets, trial transcripts and
interviews. In addition to Malcolm X, the CD-ROM includes works by instrumental
civil rights figures such as Frederick Douglass, Booker T. Washington, Langston
Hughes, Thurgood Marshall, Ida B. Wells, Martin Luther King, Jr., Rosa Parks
and Muhammad Ali.
For more information, or to purchase this CD-ROM, please visit the Alexander
Street Press Web site, at AlexanderStreetPress.com.
