Amelia Earhart speaks for Motorola
Amelia
Earhart challenged the world to rethink the role of women by setting standards as a female and as a pilot. The dynamic exploits of Earhart’s life and the tragic mystery surrounding her death contribute to her status as a beloved, enigmatic figure. Today, while aircraft and navigation technology become more advanced, Earhart’s contributions to aviation only gain greater significance.
Drawing from Amelia Earhart’s legacy, Motorola has
chosen to use the famous aviatrix’s voice in their latest mobile phone advertisement. With advertising agency Ogilvy & Mather New York, Motorola has acquired a year-long contract, ending in February 2005, to use a voice clip of Earhart in their “Hello” commercial campaign. Released in March 2004, these commercials include an excerpt of Earhart saying the phrase “Comfort giving devices.” This quote is spliced from 1935 speech, “On the Future of Women in Flying,” during which Earhart discusses the role of technology in aviation.
Motorola’s Earhart commercials will be broadcast on U.S. television and shown on www.motorola.com and www.hellomoto.com. These advertisements, which feature the most innovative modern communications technology, serve as a fitting tribute to a pioneer who eagerly anticipated the scientific improvements that have helped aviation evolve.
