Grammy Award-winning gospel duo Mary Mary pay tribute to The Andrews Sisters and Ella Fitzgerald

Norman Rockwell Approximately 50 to 60 years after the prime of their careers, the big band harmonies of The Andrews Sisters and unbelievable vocal range of Ella Fitzgerald continue to influence today’s top musicians.

The proof can be found by listening to a sampling of today's popular music, including the recently released self-titled album by the Grammy Award-winning gospel duo, Mary Mary.

The sweet and sultry sounds of 1930s and 1940s big band music can be found lurking on the track, "The Biggest Greatest Thing,” and as Tina Campbell, one half of the platinum-selling duo suggested, trying to imitate the legendary Ella Fitzgerald was a difficult task
.

Regardless, the duo was successful in their attempts, and in addition to paying homage to “The First Lady of Song,” they manage to send listeners back in time as they offer a dead-on impersonation of The Andrews Sisters to nail the harmonies. Tracks such as the one offered by Mary Mary act as eloquent tributes to the musical legends of the past.

Recently, Alicia Keys, whose albums “Songs in a Minor” and “Diary of Alicia Keys” went multi-platinum, has been loosely compared to “Lady Day” herself, Billie Holiday. While her performances are anything but flashy, Keys’ talent is enough to keep audiences spellbound.

It is in part thanks to artists such as Mary Mary and Alicia Keys, who choose to look towards the musical legends of yesteryear as inspiration for their own endeavors, that the legacy of CMG clients including The Andrews Sisters, Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald will continue to shine bright.
